Clare Cunningham

Triathlon

I am a former Paralympic Champion swimmer in Barcelona 1992. I took up triathlon 10 years ago for fun and then raced my first paratriathlon in June 2009, the British Championships, which I won. I went on to win the World and European Championships in the same year. Since then I have been a regular medallist at all ITU international paratriathlon events and championships. Since April 2012, I have been a member of the UKSport World Class Performance Programme, training in Loughborough with the British squad.

In September 2016 I raced in the inaugural Paralympic triathlon in Rio de Janeiro, 20 years after I last competed in the Paralympic Games. I finished seventh. I am now looking to focus on longer distances in 2017.

How HIGH5 fits in with my training:

I train up to five hours a day and if I’m not training then I’m trying to recover ready for the next session. HIGH5 products are key to keeping me going throughout the day. I am usually carrying a bottle with ZERO to keep me hydrated throughout the day, EnergySource 4:1 is perfect for longer sessions and Protein Hit and Protein Recovery is ideal to put in my kit bag and grab when I want to maximize recovery after a hard session.

Clare’s favourite HIGH5 products.

ZERO Tropical

EnergySource 4:1 Summer Fruits

Protein Hit Cacao & Orange

Tips for Aspiring Athletes

Enjoy what you do. If it isn’t fun you won’t get the most out of yourself and realise your potential. Training with people keeps it social and having people around can be very motivating when sessions get tough.
