Clare Cunningham Triathlon

Clare Cunningham is a former Paralympic Champion swimmer and international paratriathlete who competed for Great Britain.

Clare took up triathlon 10 years ago for fun and then raced her first paratriathlon in June 2009, the British Championships, which she won. Clare went on to win the World and European Championships in the same year. Since then she has been a regular medallist at all ITU international paratriathlon events and championships.

In 2016 Clare competed in the inaugural Paralympic triathlon in Rio de Janeiro, 20 years after her previous appearance in a Paralympic Games. She finished 7th.

After four years on the UK Sport funded World Class Performance Programme, Clare retired from international paratriathlon after the 2016 Paralympic Games. In 2017 she changed her focus to longer distance racing and made her debut over the middle distance.

How does HIGH5 fit in with my training:

I train up to five hours a day and if I’m not training then I’m trying to recover ready for the next session. HIGH5 products are key to keeping me going throughout the day. I am usually carrying a bottle with ZERO to keep me hydrated throughout the day. Energy Drink with Protein is perfect for longer sessions and Protein Hit and Protein Recovery is ideal to put in my kit bag and grab when I want to maximize recovery after a hard session.

Top tips for aspiring athletes

Enjoy what you do. If it isn’t fun you won’t get the most out of yourself and realise your potential. Training with people keeps it social and having people around can be very motivating when sessions get tough.
