With 2021 over and 2022 in full swing, it’s time to think about what challenges you might want to undertake this year!
Having an event planned in is a great way to keep up your motivation throughout winter and pre-season training, and with the 2022 looking more hopeful in terms of races, now is a great time to start looking around for your next challenge!
We’ve picked out a range of events – both with HIGH5 on course and not – from all parts of the country and with a range of terrain, lengths and levels of intensity.
Here are our top tips for UK cycling events in 2022.
Tour of Cambridgeshire – 3rd - 5th June 2022
If 100 miles of fully closed, traffic free roads sounds like your idea of cycling heaven, then look no further! The Tour of Cambridgeshire offers a full range of sportives, races and a time trial all over one weekend, meaning there’s something for every rider. With an indoor cycle show style exhibition on-site, this event has a real festival feel to it. But hurry, this event can sell out quickly!
London to Brighton Cycle Ride – 11th September 2022
Self-proclaimed the south’s iconic cycle ride, this ride should be on everyone’s bucket list. Whether you’re a new cyclist or a seasoned sportive rider, this 55-mile ride is great as a fundraiser for many causes.
After the last couple of years, setting your next challenge up to raise money for a non-profit close to your heart is an ideal feel good goal! Their headline charity bike ride partner is Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity, so if you don’t have any ideas of what charity to race for, you can help them out.
The Yorkshire Beast– 25th June 2022
There are challenging sportives out there… and then there’s the Yorkshire Beast. Dubbed the toughest day on a bike there is, the beast is 15,000ft of climbs over a brutal 200-mile course. Not tough enough? Throw in the Beast itself chasing you the whole way at a steady 12.5mph, and if he catches you… game over! This truly unique ride is one for the bucket list. Can you beat the beast?
Tour of Wessex – 2nd June 2022
If you fancy more than one day riding, the Tour of Wessex takes place over 3 days, covering either 220 or 330 miles. If that sounds a bit too easy, you can complete the entire 330-mile route in 24 hours! Covering some stunning cycle routes, each stage has a mix of monuments, history and challenging terrain, making it one to mark in the calendar.
Tweedlove Bike Festival – 16th- 18th September 2022
Set in the Tweed valley along the Scottish Borders, Tweedlove Bike Festival is an adrenaline fuelled celebration of off-road riding along some of the best riding trails in the country. There is a wide range of events to suit everyone taking place over one fun-filled weekend, finishing off with the perfect bike-ride afterparty featuring live music and great food and drink.
Throughout the festival you’ll find HIGH5 on course to fuel you to the finish line.
London Revolution – 1st - 2nd October 2022
This fantastic event features a unforgettable 156.9mile two day cycling challenge which starts in London and quickly heads out to the beautiful surrounding countryside. If you're looking for an extra challenge you can choose to attempt all 156.9 miles in one day! Although if you do opt for two day option you will be able to enjoy the perks of the midway Festival Basecamp which offers camping facilities, hot showers, bars, food and live music.
Tour of the Boarders – 4th September 2022
Starting in the Borders town of Peebles, the ‘Touro’ routes travel mainly over quiet, picturesque back roads and climb several stiff hills along the way. This event is challenging but rewarding, the routes feature the most amazing natural scenery and some of the best road cycling terrain in Scotland! What better way to take your mind off your efforts than by enjoying this beautiful part of Scotland! We’re confident this is the best value-for-money closed road sportive in the country.
Ride London – 29th May 2022
The World greatest cycling festival is back! After a short break Ride London is back and with a brand-new route, so even if you’ve previously tackled this challenge there will be brand new experiences to be had. As Before, Ride London gives you a unique opportunity to cycle on traffic free roads in the country’s capital, topped off with an epic finish on Tower Bridge - this is one not to be missed.
Throughout this festival you’ll find HIGH5 on course to fuel you to the finish line!
Etape Loch Ness – 24th April 2022
If incredible scenery is your thing, this is the sportive for you. With 106km of traffic free roads circling the stunning Loch Ness and finishing in Inverness, this is certainly one to attend. While places for the 2022 ride have sold out (and for good reason!), we had to include this incredible sportive as one to try and snag a ticket to in 2023.
Fred Whitton Challenge – 8th May 2022
One of the longest standing Sportives – and one of the toughest – The Fred Whitton Challenge takes place across 113 miles of incredible Lake District scenery. Not one for beginners, it takes a lot of effort and willpower to finish the event in one day but offers a true sense of achievement for those who do.
